Oakland County woman accused of running red light, fleeing scene in crash that killed motorcyclist

An Oakland County woman is facing charges in connection with a crash that left a motorcyclist dead and his passenger injured, officials said.

Leeann Jean Darling, 36, of Pontiac, has been charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault, resulting in death (15-year felony), operating a motor vehicle while license suspended, denied or evoked, causing death (15-year felony) and operating a motor vehicle while license suspended, denied or revoked, causing serious injury (5-year felony).

2 dead in shooting on Detroit’s west side

Police are investigating a double shooting on Detroit’s west side early Thursday morning.

The shooting happened on Griggs Avenue near 8 Mile Road and Wyoming Avenue on Oct. 9 at around 4:30 a.m.

Gov. Whitmer signs bill eliminating taxes on tips, overtime and Social Security in Michigan

Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed a budget bill Thursday, Oct. 8, 2025, in Trenton -- delivering significant tax relief to working Michiganders and seniors.

The new law eliminates taxes on tips, saving workers an average of $200 a year.

“Tips are often the difference between making or missing a rent payment, buying fresh fruits or vegetables for your family, or making a car payment you’ve been paying off,” Whitmer said at the signing event. “Michiganders with hourly jobs are often on their feet all day. They earned their tips, and they deserve to keep them.”

Weather: First frost of the season in Metro Detroit

We are waking up to some patchy frost this morning as low temperatures have fallen into the 30s. A frost advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. for all of Southeast Michigan except Wayne County. With another threat for frost tonight, remember to cover sensitive plants or bring the potted ones indoors. Hardy mums are find with these temperatures.
