KIMBALL TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A woman is dead after a Buick Regal crashed into a tractor pulling a hay wagon on Smiths Creek Road, west of Burns Road in Kimball Township, just before 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11.

According to police, a 79-year-old man from Kimball Township was driving the tractor with five passengers on the hay wagon when it was struck from behind by a Buick Regal driven by a 44-year-old man, also from Kimball Township.

Police believe the tractor was traveling westbound without proper rear lights or a slow-moving vehicle sign -- which may have contributed to the crash.

The tractor driver remains in critical condition, while the Buick driver is expected to recover.

An 85-year-old woman was pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital.

A 77-year-old woman suffered serious injuries, and three others -- a 67-year-old woman from St. Clair Shores, a 62-year-old woman from Kimball Township, and a 54-year-old man from Kimball Township -- are expected to be okay.

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team is still working to determine what caused the crash.
