Man accused of stealing iPad during Facebook Marketplace exchange in Macomb County

Jared Tyhir Barber tased after running away from officers, police say

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A man was arrested for allegedly stealing an iPad during a Facebook Marketplace exchange in Shelby Township.

The alleged robbery happened at Pebble Creek Apartments near Utica Road and Ryan Road on Oct. 9.

Jared Tyhir Barber met with someone at the apartment complex for an iPad that was put for sale on Facebook Marketplace. During the exchange, the seller handed the iPad to Barber to inspect it before completing the sale. Once Barber had the iPad in his hands, he allegedly took off running.

Once the seller of the iPad gave police a description of Barber, an officer immediately recognized him and began heading towards his last known location.

Shelby Township police sent K9 Kamm and the department’s drone to the area to help find Barber.

When officers found Barber, he allegedly ran away after being ordered to stop.

An officer then tased Barber as he was allegedly running away, bringing him to the ground.

Barber was arrested, and his home was searched, where the suspected stolen iPad was found.

Barber was arraigned in court on Oct. 10 on charges of larceny from a person and assaulting, resisting and obstructing a police officer. He was given a $50,000 cash bond.

Shelby Township police posted a video on Facebook showing the moment police tased Barber and arrested him. You can watch the video at the beginning of this article.
