Here’s a reason to visit these breweries in Michigan and taste the beers that brought home top honors from the 2025 Great American Beer Festival.

The festival takes place every fall in Denver. This year, 3 Michigan craft beers won gold medals, making it the most gold medals the states breweries won in the national competition in 15 years.

The Mitten Brewing Co. in Grand Rapids took home a gold medal for its Mr. Oktoberfest in the American Amber Lager category, while Ferndale-based Urbanrest Brewing Co. won with Kaiser in the American Pilsener category and Bridgman-based Lake Time Brewing & Spirits won with Astronaut Sauce in the American Belgo-Style Ale category.

347 medals were awarded to 273 breweries and cideries at the festival, with more than 8,300 brewery and cidery entries from all 50 states.

Three other Michigan breweries won silver medals: Flint-based Redwood Brewing Co. for Sabrina in the Belgian-style or French-style Specialty Ale category; Elk Rapids-based Short’s Brewing Co. (Production Facility) for Hot Loins in the Experimental Beer category; and Bridgman-based Haymarket Brewery & Taproom for Baltic Porter in the Strong Porter category.

Brewery 4 Two 4 in Holland won a bronze medal for Inappropriate Puns in the Coffee Beer category.
