Body pulled from Red Cedar River near Michigan State’s campus, police say

No information about deceased person has been released at this time

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Police are investigating after a body was found in the Red Cedar River.

The East Lansing Police Department, with assistance from the Michigan State University Department of Police and Public Safety, pulled the body from the Red Cedar River, just east of Cedar Village, in the early morning hours on Oct. 13, 2025.

Police confirmed it was a middle-aged woman, but further details are being withheld pending identification and notifying the family.

“This is an ongoing investigation,” East Lansing police said. “However, ELPD does not believe there is a risk to public safety.”

Police say more information will be released at a later time.
