MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Surveillance video shows the moment when a hidden shooter emerged from his hiding spot between two cars to target a well-known business man who was leaving his Macomb County mansion.
You can watch the surveillance footage above.
What happened
Eddie Jawad was leaving his home on 24 Mile Road in Macomb Township at 10:18 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025.
As he drove down the driveway toward the road in his black SUV, a person appeared from between the two vehicles parked on the right side of the driveway.
That person fired shots from the passenger’s side of Jawad’s SUV, and continued to follow the SUV as Jawad drove toward the road and then across his own front lawn.
The gunman ultimately stopped following the SUV and turned around to retreat back in the direction from which he’d come. He disappeared from the view of the camera behind the vehicles where he was originally hiding.
Jawad was struck by gunfire, but he was released from the hospital on the same day.
Investigating surveillance video
Police said they went back and watched surveillance footage that shows the shooter at 8:22 a.m. Oct. 14 in the area of 24 Mile Road and Wellington Valley Drive.
At 9:30 a.m. Oct. 14, the shooter is seen on video footage entering Jawad’s yard.
After the shooting, the gunman left the yard and returned to a black SUV parked on Wellington Valley Drive, police said. Wellington Valley Drive is right next to the mansion, directly to the east. He fled east on 24 Mile Road.
Police ask for information
Macomb County deputies are asking for the public’s help to identify the shooter.
He is described as been thin and about 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 8 inches tall.
He left in a 2020-2022 black Ford Escape that had a stolen plate, according to authorities.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at 586-307-9358.
Macomb County prosecutor responds
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido told Local 4 that this was a targeted shooting.
“Someone was lying in wait,” Lucido said. “You could see him between the two cars, coming out with a gun and shooting immediately. This was in front of the man’s house, where his family is, where his wife is. This is ridiculous.”
Lucido said he’s known Jawad for years. He stood beside Jawad in December at the ribbon-cutting for Jawad’s gas station at 23 Mile and Van Dyke roads.
Jawad owns several gas stations in Metro Detroit and has been outspoken against the expansion of Sheetz into the area.
“He wanted to make sure what is in his mind and what was his heart, it was coming out of his mouth,” Lucido said. “So I appreciate those kinds of people. They’re not holding back.”
Who is Eddie Jawad?
Faye Nemer, CEO and founder of the Middle East and North African American Chamber of Commerce, described Jawad as someone who consistently gives back to his community.
“One of the ways that he gives back to the small business community is through his advocacy and his efforts to ensure that they have an equitable chance at operating their businesses,” Nemer said.
Jawad came to the U.S. at an early age and attended Cass Tech in Detroit, Nemer said. Initially involved in the ROTC program, he chose to pursue a business career instead.
Starting as an employee in the gas station sector, he learned the intricacies of the business before becoming an owner and expanding his operations.
Nemer said the shooting at Jawad’s home was “absolutely targeted,” but added that they are still working to learn more about what happened.
“To be quite honest, it is a miracle that he came out alive,” Nemer said. “He’s in high spirits. You know, he even remarked, ‘I still have eight lives left.’ So he definitely feels like he has a new lease on life.”
Nemer urged local authorities to prioritize the investigation and said the shooting has prompted business owners to take extra precautions.
“When these individuals or individual is caught, they’re going to be brought to justice for doing what they did, because there’s no excuse,” Lucido said. “We will not tolerate that here in Macomb County.”
