More orange barrels ahead: Macomb County announces new road projects for 2026

So far this year, the county has completed more than $73 million in road improvements

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Leaders in Macomb County are outlining the next steps for drivers and highlighting key infrastructure projects.

So far this year, the county has completed more than $73 million in road improvements.

Macomb County is the state’s third-largest county, which means managing a massive road system.

Because of this, county leaders say they will be spending even more on improvements in 2026.

On Tuesday (Oct. 21), county officials highlighted progress made this year, including notable projects on 10 Mile Road, Garfield Road, and 14 Mile Road.

However, they acknowledge there is still much work ahead.

The county announced several new projects for 2026, increasing the budget to $88 million.

Those projects include the reconstruction of Romeo Plank and the William P. Roso Highway, as well as two bridge replacements on 21 Mile Road and Schoenherr Road.

Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel said, “2026, there’s going to be a lot of projects on that list. Some are going to be very quick hits. Some of them are going to be long-term, and there’s even one or two that are multi-year projects like 21 to 23 Mile roads and Romeo Plank.”

Residents can find a full list of projects and track closures and updates on Macomb County’s website.
