MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A 32-year-old man is facing charges after targeting a well-known Metro Detroit businessman in a shooting, and police say bird poop on a vehicle helped lead to his arrest.

Jasan Delanta Martin has been charged with assault with intent to murder (a life or any term of years felony), possession of a weapon by a prohibited person (a five-year felony), carrying a weapon with an unlawful intent (a five-year felony) and three counts of felony firearm (each a two-year felony, consecutive to the main charge), in connection with shooting Eddie Jawad.

He is also being charged as a habitual fourth offender.

The shooting happened on Tuesday, Oct. 14, as Jawad was leaving his Macomb Township home on 24 Mile Road at around 10 a.m.

After the shooting, Martin left in a black Ford Escape that he had parked on Wellington Avenue Drive, which is located right next to Jawad’s home.

Investigators used surveillance video to track the vehicle, discovering it had stolen plates on it.

As they continued to track the vehicle, a potential match was found near 8 Mile and Gratiot. This vehicle had a proper plate on it.

Police said this vehicle had “specific and consistent markings” that matched the suspect vehicle, including “brake dust on the wheel well,” smudges," and “bird poop.”

Investigators then obtained a search warrant for the Ford Global Security tracking information on this vehicle, which revealed that it was parked at the registered owner’s home in Eastpointe before the shooting, and on Wellington Valley Drive during the shooting.

After questioning the owner of this car on Oct. 17, detectives learned that this person was not the suspect.

Authorities learned that Martin allegedly borrowed the car from this person, who police identified as the suspect’s relative.

Investigators continued to search for Martin, and he was found and arrested at a home on Rivard in Warren on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2025.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025.

Officials said at the time of the shooting, Martin was on parole out of Ohio for aggravated robbery, kidnapping and assault with a dangerous weapon.
