Woman accused of driving through Macomb County child’s bedroom appeared in court -- what happened

9-year-old injured after being hit by car, thrown into yard

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – The woman accused of driving an SUV through a child’s bedroom and injuring a 9-year-old in Macomb County appeared in court on Wednesday.

The crash happened around 3 a.m. on Oct. 13 at a Center Line home near 10 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue.

A 9-year-old girl who was sleeping at the time was thrown from her bedroom and into the yard, suffering multiple serious injuries. A GoFundMe was set up to help with medical costs. You can donate here.

Police said the SUV missed hitting a 22-month-old baby girl in the home by four feet.

Caris Adell Wade allegedly crashed her car through the home and ran off on foot. She was taken into custody by a Warren police officer, who was in the area.

Wade was charged with reckless driving causing serious injury and failure to stop at the scene of a crash. Her bond was set at $200,000.

Additional charges may be filed depending on the results of a toxicology test.

She appeared in court on Oct. 22 via Zoom for her probable cause hearing. You can watch the full hearing in the video at the beginning of this article.

A probable cause conference is a procedural hearing where dates for future court hearings are verified and ensure the case is still on track.

The prosecutor told the judge that they are still awaiting the toxicology test results from the Michigan State Police lab to press more charges on Wade. He said he’s not sure how long it will take to get the results.

The judge then rescheduled Wade’s preliminary hearing for Nov. 26 to give additional time for the toxicology results to come in. The hearing was initially set for Oct. 29.

In a preliminary hearing, evidence from the prosecutor’s office is shared, and the district court judge determines if there’s enough evidence to bind the case over to the circuit court for a trial.
