Body found in Red Cedar River identified as MSU doctoral student

East Lansing police confirm identity of woman found in river, no foul play suspected

EAST LANSING, Mich. – East Lansing police have identified the body found in the Red Cedar River on Oct. 13 as Meagan Turner, a 32-year-old doctoral candidate from Canada studying at Michigan State University.

The East Lansing Police Department, with help from MSU Police, recovered Turner’s body just east of Cedar Village.

Police say there is currently no evidence of foul play.

The Ingham County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting toxicology tests, which may take two to four weeks to complete.

“ELPD will continue to investigate all options and leads in this case, but we do not have reason at this point to believe there is an ongoing risk to public safety,” said ELPD Police Chief Jen Brown.

Further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
