ROSEVILLE, Mich. – The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting involving a driver who rammed his car into a police cruiser before confronting officers was justified.
The incident occurred on Monday, Oct. 13, around 4:30 a.m. in the Roseville Police Department parking lot.
A newly released video captured the moment the driver in Roseville rammed the police car and then attacked officers with a knife.
From the footage, it’s clear the driver’s actions were intentional. He drove around the parking lot, waiting for officers to come outside.
At 4:32 a.m., the driver was seen driving through the lot, then reversing to the other end, where he waited for seven minutes.
He then drove up and barely hit the back of a Roseville cruiser, but no officer was inside.
Realizing this, the Driver backed up and waited another two minutes until officers exited the police department.
About 20 seconds later, the driver floored it and slammed into the car with an officer inside.
An officer can be heard saying, “Guys, this guy just rammed me.”
Other officers quickly moved to box in the driver.
“Stay right there – put the car in park – whoa whoa whoa,” an officer says, realizing the driver had a large knife.
“Drop the knife – now – drop the knife – drop the knife,” officers command.
Seconds later, the driver exited the vehicle with the knife in hand, prompting officers to fire.
Gunshots ring out as the driver ran toward an officer with the knife.
The driver was shot and remains in critical condition.
The Macomb County Sheriff’s Department released the video, stating the shooting was justified.
The driver has not been named by investigators but faces four felony counts, including assault with a deadly weapon.
