WARREN, Mich. – A Warren police officer has been charged after he allegedly “misappropriated funds” from the Police Explorer Program, which is a charitable organization for youth interested in law enforcement careers, officials said.
Jack Barnes, 29, of Warren, was arraigned on an embezzlement charge at 40th District Court on Friday, Oct. 24, 2025, according to a release from the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office. He was one of the associate advisors of the Police Explorer program.
The charge comes after a senior command officer found a “financial discrepancy” once the program had finalized a charity event.
According to the release, this discrepancy was reported in July 2025.
The Warren Police Department referred the case to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office for an investigation, per department policy, and Barnes was placed on administrative leave.
The investigation was reviewed by the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, and Barnes was charged with embezzlement from a charitable organization, $200 or more but less than $1,000 (a five-year felony).
A judge gave Barnes a $5,000 personal recognizance bond. Barnes can’t leave the state of Michigan, and can’t have any contact with the complaining witness.
