Defense, ground-and-pound attack submits Spartans as Michigan football extends rivalry win streak to 4
The No. 25-ranked Michigan Wolverines defeated the Michigan State Spartans 31-20 in East Lansing for the Paul Bunyan Trophy, their fourth straight victory in the rivalry.
The battle for the state championship took place on Saturday (Oct. 25) at 7:30 p.m. on NBC as the Wolverines improved to 6-2 on the season.
The last time Michigan won four consecutive games in the series was during a six-game streak from 2002 to 2007.
The Spartans, on the other hand, extended their losing streak to five in a row this season, as many fans were calling for head coach Jonathan Smith’s job in the process.
‘Half the building is on fire’: Southgate police release footage of massive fire at senior living facility
Southgate police have released new footage of the intense fire that broke out Friday, Oct. 24, at the American House senior living facility on Allen Road near Dix Toledo and Pennsylvania Avenue.
Southgate Fire Chief Justin Graves confirmed that as of 2 a.m. on Oct 25, there were no known injuries or fatalities.
“We don’t know yet how it started, but everyone is accounted for. We are making sure no one is missing,” he said.
Graves also praised the heroic efforts of first responders. “It’s an incredible effort by everyone on scene -- police and firefighters risking their lives to get all these people out safely. Hats off to them.”
Royal Oak stabbing leaves 83-year-old man dead, investigation underway
An 83-year-old man died Friday night after being stabbed in Royal Oak, police say.
Officers were called around 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 24 to the 4300 block of Sheridan Drive after a man was heard calling for help.
Upon arrival, officers arrested a 35-year-old woman with blood on her hands after a brief chase.
Inside the home, they found the elderly man unresponsive in the basement with multiple stab wounds.

After some sunshine and some clouds for the start of the weekend on Saturday, we’re bringing in more sunshine and little high cloud cover along with seasonable temperatures for the end of the weekend on Sunday.
High pressure off to the North in Canada will control our forecast for the next few days, and that will continue the trend of mostly sunny skies after most of us cleared out after midnight, overnight and into Sunday morning.
Most of us are looking at a frost and/or freeze on Sunday morning as well.
While we start the day into the 30s, we will warm things up into the mid 50s by the time we get to late this afternoon.
