Candy, chips containing THC, mushrooms designed to look like popular snacks found during Warren raid

Detectives find candy in home linked to investigation

WARREN, Mich. – Candy and chips containing THC and psilocybin mushrooms that were designed to look like popular snacks were found during a search at a Warren home, police said.

On Thursday, Oct. 23, 2025, Warren detectives searched a home linked to one of their ongoing investigations. They said they found several bags of chips, candy, and other snacks that appeared to be in standard packaging.

But when they investigated further, police realized many of the snacks contained THC or psilocybin mushroom products.

Police said the snacks were packaged to make it look like they were regular, well-known candies and chips.

“Certain candies and snacks were deliberately made to look like everyday treats, but actually contained dangerous substances such as THC and psilocybin mushrooms,” Warren police Commissioner Eric Hawkins said.

While there’s no evidence that these snacks were distributed to children, Warren police took this opportunity ahead of Halloween to remind parents that they should check all trick-or-treating candy and snacks.

“We’re grateful to have removed these items before they could fall into the hands of children,” Hawkins said. “This serves as an important reminder for families to carefully inspect all Halloween treats and to prioritize safety this season.”

Here are some tips for trick-or-treaters from Warren police:

  • Carefully inspect all candy and treats before letting children eat them.
  • Throw out any unwrapped, loose, or homemade items unless you know and trust the source.
  • Look for unusual packaging, odors, or discoloration that could indicate tampering.
  • Remind children not to eat any treats until they return home and an adult has had a chance to check them.
  • If you discover any suspicious items, do not handle them -- contact the Warren Police Department.

Anyone with questions or concerns about Halloween safety, or anyone who wants to report suspicious items, can call the Warren Police Department at 586-574-4700.
