State health officials announced that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will be paused in November.
“Due to the ongoing federal government funding lapse, there may be limited availability of funds,” the Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service said in directing MDHHS to hold November payments.
SNAP is the largest food assistance program in the country, and nearly 13% of households in Michigan depend on them. That’s about 1.4 million people.
Here’s Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan talking about resources in Detroit:
Detroit thank you! We came together and we now have over 800 volunteers and 85 sites ready to go to distribute food for those impacted by SNAP interruptions. View the interactive map to find a food distribution site near you at https://t.co/rP72uePrdQ. pic.twitter.com/RRxz6jnldw
