Wanted felon shot by police in Michigan after fleeing, crashing into ditch

LONG RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A wanted felon was shot by police in Michigan after he fled a traffic stop and crashed into a ditch, authorities said.

Michigan State Police said this happened around 8:40 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025, in Alpena and Presque Isle counties -- in the northeastern Lower Peninsula.

Deputies from the Presque Isle County Sheriff’s Office tried to pull over a pickup truck near Rogers City. The 33-year-old man driving the pickup was a known wanted felon, state police said.

The man fled, sparking a chase, according to authorities. The chase went into Alpena County and ended when the pickup trucked into a ditch off of M-65 near Leer Road in Long Rapids Township.

When the man got out, police said he was holding a gun. Deputies shot him and then provided aid at the scene.

He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he’s stable.

No deputies were injured, according to Michigan State Police.

The investigation is ongoing.
