Michigan’s economy hits growth pause, report finds

UM economist joins Local 4 Live to explain growth pause

As we enter the final month of 2025, we’re getting a better idea of how Michigan’s economy is looking in the new year.

A new economic outlook report from the University of Michigan found that the state hit a growth pause this fall and that could linger into next year.

They think things could pick up again in 2027. But there is a bright side. Economists are not forecasting a recession for the United States in the next two years.

To talk about the reasons Michigan’s growth has stalled, one of the University of Michigan economists who wrote this forecast, Gabe Ehrlich, joined Local 4 Live. You can watch the full interview at the beginning of this article.
