WARREN, Mich. – The City of Warren is recognizing school crossing guard Ernest Doolin for his brave actions that protected a young student from harm.
A witness reported that on Nov. 13, a car failed to yield while turning near a school crossing, nearly hitting a child already in the crosswalk.

Without hesitation, Doolin placed himself between the car and the student, preventing what could have been a serious accident.
“Mr. Doolin’s courage and selflessness reflect the highest ideals of public service,” said Mayor Lori Stone. “His instinct to act—and to protect a child without regard for his own safety—is nothing short of heroic. Our city is grateful for his dedication to the safety of Warren’s children.”
Following a review of the incident, the Warren Police Department recommended Doolin for a Civilian Citation Award for Valor, recognizing his actions as exemplary and deserving of formal recognition.
At a ceremony held in the Mayor’s Office, Doolin was presented with a Mayoral Proclamation honoring his heroism and ongoing commitment to student safety.
Warren Police Commissioner Eric Hawkins joined the Mayor in expressing appreciation for Doolin’s service.
“Our crossing guards play an essential role in protecting children every day,” Hawkins said. “Mr. Doolin’s actions demonstrate the vigilance and care we see across our ranks, and we are proud to honor him.”
A United States Army veteran, Doolin has served the Warren community as a school crossing guard since 2022.
