LED lights help in winter weather, Michigan State study finds

MSU proposing solution to help make curved roads safer

Researchers at Michigan State University are looking into ways to make our roads safer.

A new study finds curved roads are especially dangerous when it snows.

There were more than 128,000 crashes on curved roads during winter weather between 2018 and 2022 in Michigan. In 175 of those crashes, people died or were seriously injured. Nearly 1,400 people suffered less serious injuries.

That’s why MSU is proposing a solution using LED lights, and they’re studying it in Northern Michigan.

Timothy Gates, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at MSU, joined Local 4 Live to talk more about the research. You can watch the full interview at the beginning of this article.
