Monday: Frigid Temperatures
DETROIT – Bundle up and limit your time outside this morning! Wind chills are in the single digits, and some areas have fallen below zero. Highs this afternoon will be more than 10 degrees below average, in the 20s. With high pressure just west of here, we will likely see some sunshine today. We have an active week ahead.
Tuesday: Accumulating Snow
Snow chances increase around the morning rush hour drive on Tuesday. That will bring a minor coating, but just enough to create slick spots for the morning commute. There will be a lull from late morning through sunset. By late evening, we see a rain/snow mix arrive. Precipitation type will depend on where you live. With additional opportunities for accumulating snow, we could see a total of a half inch to 1.5 inches by the end of Tuesday. Highs on Tuesday will be in the low to mid 30s.
Wednesday: Warmer/Wintry Mix
The snow will likely change over to liquid rain for most of Southeast Michigan overnight into early Wednesday. Highs in the Metro area will be close to average in the mid to upper 30s. However, areas along/north of I-69 will trend cooler and could maintain all snow leading to accumulations in excess of 3 inches in the Thumb. This warm-up is brief, which means we could see a re-freeze across Metro Detroit later in the day. Colder air returns Wednesday evening with a bit of additional light snow possible. For areas not treated like sidewalks and driveways, icy patches will be possible.
Colder End to the Week
The next arctic airmass builds in for the remainder of the week through the weekend. With that, rounds of lake effect snow bands will be on tap Thursday through the weekend as highs fall into the 20s during that timeframe.
