A slow, gradual warm-up through midweek in Metro Detroit with rain, snow on the way

Rain and snow to end the week

Cool but not as harsh today. Highs today will be near freezing, which is improvement from yesterday but still about 5 degrees cooler than average. Tonight, we could see some isolated freezing drizzle or freezing fog.

The Melt

A warm-up is forecasted for the middle of the week, with temperatures in the upper 30s on Wednesday and 40s on Thursday. A strong storm system will bring rain on Thursday, transitioning to snow in some areas overnight into Friday. Gusty winds will accompany this system.

The Possible Flash Freeze

There is the potential for any moisture on roads, ramps, bridges, overpasses and sidewalks to encounter a flash freeze as arctic air moves back into the region late Thursday. Friday morning’s commute still looks potentially troublesome because of the rapid drop in temperatures possibly resulting in black ice.

Seasonal Weekend

Temperatures are expected to rebound in the upper 30s both Saturday and Sunday.
