WARREN, Mich. – The family and friends of a man stabbed in Warren held a vigil Saturday night. The evening aimed to reclaim the victim’s legacy after the aftermath of the standoff was streamed online for hours.
Mucari Finley was a 29-year-old decorated chef working at the new RH Rooftop in Birmingham.
He was stabbed to death inside a Warren home the morning of Dec. 12.
The person charged with his murder, Dominick Robinson, streamed the police standoff that followed from inside the Warren home on Facebook for hours.
The video has since gone viral.
Finley’s family held Saturday’s vigil outside the home in hopes of reclaiming where he died.
“The social media narrative that swiftly followed, I felt it was important that we, as his family, and his friends, and his loved ones, come back here to claim that, Stanley Wright, Finley’s father, said. “We did not want those events and that individual to be the person that defined who Mucari was.”
Family says they believe Finley agreed to meet with the suspect the morning of the stabbing after matching with the suspect online.
They want to combat what they call misinformation spreading in the wake of the viral livestream.
During the stream, the suspect claimed Finley sold drugs to the suspect’s partner that led to his death.
Investigators have not confirmed those allegations.
Finley’s family says he has no criminal history and was not a drug dealer.
“He was an amazing chef,” Candice Wroblewski, a friend of Finley’s, said. “He always wanted more. He loved the food scene in Detroit. He loved music. He loved his dog. We shared a lot of good times together.”
Robinson remains in the Macomb County Jail and is expected to make their next court appearance Tuesday.
“Obviously, that individual is already in jail and will likely go to prison,” Wright said. “So, that is one aspect. As I said in my previous statement, we are very thankful to law enforcement for taking that person alive, because I definitely felt like just as Mucari did not deserve to die, that person did not deserve to die, they deserve to spend the rest of their life in prison.”
