Yet another emergency vehicle hit as Warren police help driver in different crash

No injuries reported

WARREN, Mich. – Authorities are once again reminding drivers of Michigan’s Move Over Law after another driver hit a police cruiser on a major freeway this year.

Michigan’s expanded “Move Over” law took effect back in 2019. It required drivers to slow to 10 mph below the posted speed limit and yield their lane when passing police or emergency vehicles on the side of the road.

It happened at about 1:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, on westbound I-696 near Mound Road.

According to authorities, officers were in a fully marked police vehicle on the left shoulder with all emergency lighting activated when they were rear-ended by an SUV that was going too fast for the road conditions.

Both vehicles were significantly damaged, but no one was injured.

The driver was issued a citation.
