Police investigate after 5 shot during Sterling Heights house party
Five people were injured when gunfire erupted at a house party early Saturday morning in Sterling Heights, police said.
Two suspects opened fire on each other during the incident, which occurred just before 1:30 a.m. at a residence near East 14 Mile and Ryan Road.
Both shooters were among those wounded in the exchange.
Three bystanders were also struck by gunfire during the incident.
Four victims were transported to local hospitals by emergency responders, while a fifth person drove herself to seek medical treatment.
Soap Project warns of human trafficking risks at Detroit Auto Show
Hundreds of thousands are expected to visit Detroit for the 2026 auto show, but along with the excitement comes a serious concern: human trafficking.
The nonprofit organization The Soap Project is working to raise awareness and protect vulnerable people during the event.
The Soap Project, which stands for Save Our Adolescents From Prostitution, urges attendees to stay alert.
Its founder and survivor Theresa Flores says, “Men that have younger girls or boys with them and they look like they’re not happy. They don’t want to be there. Their eyes are down, not making eye contact looking timid.”
President Donald Trump to visit Detroit next week
President Donald Trump will visit Detroit on Tuesday, Jan. 13 -- his first trip to Michigan since April 2025.
Trump is scheduled to speak at the Detroit Economic Club in the afternoon.
The Detroit Economic Club has hosted government officials and political leaders since 1934, including Presidents Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Clinton and George W. Bush.
1 dead, 1 wounded after parking lot dispute leads to shooting at Southfield restaurant
A woman was killed and another injured early Saturday morning in a shooting at a Southfield restaurant.
At 2:35 a.m. on Jan. 10, Southfield police were called to Bloom Southfield, located at 25080 Southfield Road, following reports of gunfire.
Officers discovered two women with gunshot wounds. Both were taken to the hospital.
One woman is expected to recover, while the other died from her injuries.
