Meet Local 4’s new reporter, Khalil Maycock

Khalil joins WDIV after stops in Iowa, Jacksonville

WDIV Reporter Khalil Maycock (WDIV)

DETROIT – My name is Khalil Maycock, and I’m a Southerner who’s back in the Midwest, again.

I grew up in Florida, about 45 minutes north of West Palm Beach.

My first time in the Midwest was from 2020 to 2022, when I worked at a station in Des Moines, Iowa. I loved the seasons so much that I had to run it back in a different city a few years later, after a three-year stop in Jacksonville, Florida.

My love for journalism started as a child. During weeknights growing up, the local news was one of the only things I was allowed to watch.

That early passion stuck with me through college. I attended the University of Central Florida. There, I received a Bachelor’s degree in electronic journalism with a minor in political science.

Before graduating from UCF, I completed a journalism study abroad in Cuba. I’d say it’s one of my favorite things I’ve done so far in this field.

When it comes to stories, I love anything that allows me to dig -- especially if it’s from a viewer tip.

Outside of news, I recently started taking tennis lessons. I’m not good, but it’s been fun so far.

I love to eat, and I’m always looking for GOOD food recommendations. I despise it when I get suggestions, and the food turns out to be less than satisfactory. Send your top food spots my way!

I’m excited to be in Detroit and can’t wait to meet all of you and tell your stories.
