Michigan AG issues warning about parking scams at Detroit Auto Show

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is warning people going to the Detroit Auto Show to watch out for parking scams.

Local 4 caught up with one family who traveled from Columbus for the show and had to pay double the amount they were expecting for parking.

The Blue family looked up parking options earlier this week as they prepared to come to the show on Saturday. They found a good option online for $25.

When they arrived at the lot, the price listed on the sign was $60.

“We got here and it was 60,” Rita Blue said.

“We looked it up, it did say like 25, 30 bucks and we came out here and it’s double,” Tyson Blue said. “Everyone is waving you in and I’m asking, ‘Is it cheaper down the street?’ They’re like ‘No, this is everywhere, everywhere is like this.’”

Canton man dies after being pinned under snow plow in Southfield parking lot

snow plow while performing maintenance in a Southfield parking lot, police said.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. at a parking lot near Twelve Mile and Evergreen roads, where the driver was servicing his vehicle when a piece of equipment fell on top of him.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but were unable to save the man due to the severity of his injuries.

The accident happened just days after a major snowstorm moved through Metro Detroit.

Truck repair completed for Oakland County couple after parts delay left them stranded for over a month

A 79-year-old Clarkston man has finally gotten his Chevrolet Silverado back after more than a month without the vehicle due to a parts delay.

Dave Clarence Webster bought the truck in 2023 because it fit his wife’s wheelchair.

As her sole caretaker, losing access to the vehicle left them without reliable transportation.

Webster initially took the truck in for maintenance after receiving a notice around Dec. 1.

“It was saying that my SD card was not reading,” Webster said.

When he went in for the appointment, he discovered another issue.

21 arrested in Metro Detroit human trafficking sting

A covert law enforcement operation in Metro Detroit this week led to the arrest of more than 20 people in connection with human trafficking–related activity, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Enforcement Team (SET), made up of detectives from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office and the Warren Police Department, carried out the targeted operation.

They were assisted by multiple agencies, including the Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau, Macomb Area Computer Enforcement, the Macomb Auto Theft Squad, and several task force officers.

Twelve people were arrested for engaging in commercial sex activity.

They were processed and released pending criminal charges for prostitution, accosting, and soliciting, which are 93-day misdemeanors under Michigan law.

Weather: More snow accumulation, dangerously cold wind chills expected in Metro Detroit

This round of snow is expected to bring 1 to 3 inches of snow from late Monday morning.

High temperatures dropping into the lower 20s by Sunday afternoon.
