We want to share with you that we lost a member of our Local 4 family suddenly on Tuesday.
Bill Townsend worked here with us for 25 years, and was a staple of our morning news team.
Lovingly known to us as “Sweet Billy T,” Bill came in every day at 2:30 a.m. to manage live shots, helicopters, and crews in the field.
He edited endless pieces of video, creating the images you see on the morning news each day, and worked on Detroit’s annual Thanksgiving parade for nearly two decades.
Bill was always willing to pitch in to help out a coworker, was an avid old-school video gamer, and could always be counted on to bring his laugh to a tough situation.
We send our deepest condolences to his wife, Mari, and their family. Rest in peace, Bill. We will miss you deeply.
