A 4Warn Weather Alert has been issued for Friday and Saturday in Metro Detroit.
What is a 4Warn Weather Alert?
We issue a 4Warn Weather Alert when we’re expecting weather conditions that will be inconvenient to our viewers.
Why did we issue an alert for Friday, Saturday?
We have issued a 4Warn Weather Alert for Friday, Jan. 23, and Saturday, Jan. 24, due to the extreme cold.
The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for 1 a.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday for dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 below zero. Even without the wind chill, temperatures on Saturday morning could be the coldest we have experienced in seven years. Make sure to bring pets inside and limit your time outside due to the risk of frostbite and hypothermia.
The weekend winter storm to our south could track a little farther north and clip a portion of Southeast Michigan. We are actively monitoring the track of that system. It’s premature to lock into snow totals, but snow will be likely Sunday. We remain well below average through the first half of next week.
