ROSEVILLE, Mich. – Roseville City Councilman Jim Hoover said he had seen a heavy police presence but limited firsthand details as he is a neighbor close to the situation.
Hoover shared that a friend living across the street reported an altercation between the shooter and his wife.
According to Hoover, the shooter had been using drugs and alcohol and was not in his right mind.
“So I guess there was an altercation between the shooter and his wife. The shooter, I guess, had been doing a lot of drugs, a lot of drinking. So he’s kind of like not in his right mind. So he brought out a gun and was, I guess, shooting at his wife, which led the police to show up,” said Hoover.
The situation, according to Hoover, escalated when the shooter fired at his wife and then at police officers.
Hoover confirmed that Roseville police, along with officers from Eastpointe and Fraser, responded to the scene.
Neighbors heard gunshots and were fearful for their safety, with some taking cover in their yards.
Hoover expressed concern over the incident, saying, “It’s not a good look for Roseville.”
He added hope that the shooter receives the help he needs and that the injured officer, who was taken to the hospital, makes a full recovery.
“Hopefully the guy gets the help that he needs, and hopefully, so there, there was an officer that was shot. Um, I understand he’s, he’s doing okay. He, he has been taken to the hospital. So we’re praying for him and, uh, yeah, hopefully the shooter gets the health that he needs, and the officer makes a full recovery. And, you know. Hope we can just get past this whole thing.”
