Michigan nurses’ strike at Henry Ford Genesys may be nearing resolution

Both sides report reaching important steps in ongoing negotiations

Henry Ford Genesys Hospital and Teamsters Local 332 said the end of their 154-day strike might be near.

Both sides report reaching important steps in ongoing negotiations.

More than 700 nurses walked out on Labor Day, demanding better pay and safer patient-to-nurse ratios.

The health system said it has met with the union more than 70 times since September in efforts to reach a deal.

However, Teamsters claim the hospital has refused to meet and bargain several times.

Both parties are expected to continue talks on Tuesday (Feb. 3).

A joint statement on behalf of Henry Ford Genesys Hospital and Teamsters Local 332 that was shared over the weekend:

“Friday night, representatives for Henry Ford Genesys Hospital and Teamsters Local 332 reached an important milestone towards ending the ongoing labor dispute. We remain optimistic as crucial steps in the negotiations process continue. We appreciate everyone’s understanding, and we look forward to sharing more when we’re able.”

Henry Ford Health shared a statement on Monday, Feb. 2, saying “We are all working towards the same goal: a contract that values current team members, attracts and retains new nurses, and prioritizes the safety and well-being of patients and team members. As a crucial stage of the negotiation process continues, we remain hopeful that Genesys Hospital nurses will soon have a contract that fosters the same great working environment enjoyed by 18,000 nurses across the Henry Ford Health system.”
