Oakland University stabbing suspects still at large, campus on alert

Oakland University police continue searching for two suspects involved in a stabbing that left one man injured Thursday night. Witnesses described the suspects as men in their early 20s.

One suspect is about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a black North Face jacket, black pants, and white shoes with blue on the back. He has chin-length dreadlocks.

The other suspect wore a camo jacket with a black hood, black pants, and black shoes, and has curly hair.

The incident has left some students feeling uneasy as they return to classes. Many on campus hope those responsible will be held accountable.

Emergency teams rescue man after parking garage partially collapses, leaving him trapped for over 2 hours

Dearborn Fire Chief Joseph Murray gave an update on the partial collapse of a parking garage.

The miraculous rescue involved a man who survived being trapped when the structure collapsed onto his car.

The incident occurred on Friday (Feb. 6) in the area of Michigan Avenue and West Outer Drive around 8:45 p.m.

Fire crews say the first floor of the garage collapsed, burying the vehicle under concrete and steel beams.

After about two hours, rescue teams managed to pull the victim out through his car window.

‘More than a restaurant’: Customers brave cold for one last taste of Detroit Bar-B-Q at risk of closing

Customers braved cold temperatures Friday to line up outside Parks Old Style Bar-B-Q, hoping to savor one final taste of the longtime Detroit restaurant that’s been serving the community for nearly six decades.

“We can see how much the community loves us. We always get customers, but it’s just like – it hasn’t been this busy in years,” said Chanell McGilary, manager of the north end business.

The family-owned restaurant, a cornerstone of Detroit’s barbecue scene, is set to close its doors on Sunday (Feb. 8), marking the end of a legacy that spans generations of both owners and loyal customers.

Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month highlights risks after death of 17-year-old Detroit girl

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, and last year’s killing of 17-year-old London Thomas serves as a sad reminder that domestic violence can affect anyone, regardless of age.

“I experienced abuse as an adult,” Dr. So’Phelia Morrow, an assistant professor at Wayne State University’s School of Social Work, said on Friday.

A Flint native, Morrow spent years studying intimate partner violence, with a particular focus on middle-class black women and girls, such as Thomas.
