DETROIT – Residents inside a Detroit senior apartment complex say they’re worried for their safety because there’s no longer anyone from management consistently in the office.
The apartment’s regional manager says there is an employee managing two complexes at the same time.
Seniors living inside the Reverend Holley Senior Apartments say there used to be a person from management working at the complex 40 hours a week. But, about three or four months ago, that changed.
“These are elderly people who have wheelchairs, and canes, and stuff, so this assistance is needed,” one resident said.
This resident says they applied to live at the complex and waited months to hear if they got a spot. They were thrilled to finally get a unit. When they moved in, there was a friendly face in the office, ready to help the many seniors inside.
“Then, it went to no presence at all,” the resident said.
The resident says there’s only phone numbers posted on the glass where the office once was. They say it’s impacting seniors who live inside.
“We had several incidents where the police will come out, the fire trucks have come out and they haven’t had access to the things that they need to get access to, so the fire alarm stayed on most of the night,” the resident said.
Local 4 reached out to the regional manager of the complex to find out what is happening.
The manager says there used to be a full-time leasing person in the office, but when they re-did the budget, they go rid of that position and hired a part-time leasing person. They say there’s another manager.
“They manage Reverend Holley and then another building which is maybe a mile, a mile and a half, down the street,” the regional manager said.
The manager says any tenant can call the listed numbers at any time for help.
“I am speaking out for the residents,” the tenant said. “These are elderly, disabled, people. Many of them don’t know how because I am speaking out because I want to see this done.”
