Child killed after family hit by car and shot outside Lansing

3 others remain hospitalized

DELTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A young child was killed in an attack outside Lansing, where a man reportedly hit a family with his car before shooting at them.

It happened Friday, Feb. 13, in Delta Township.

According to authorities, the family was taking a walk when they were struck by the car. The driver then got out of the car and began shooting at the family.

A Good Samaritan who attempted to help the family was reportedly attacked and seriously injured.

A 37-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman have been hospitalized, but are expected to survive. A 72-year-old woman is in critical condition.

An active shooter alert was sent out to residents as police searched for the suspect.

Investigators believe the attack wasn’t random.

The suspected gunman was found and taken into custody by Eaton County Sheriff’s deputies and Michigan State Police. He is being held at Eaton County Jail awaiting charges.
