ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Mich. – Two men who had been working on a well at a recently purchased home were found dead following a chemical exposure in St. Clair County.
The incident occurred Tuesday, Feb. 17, just before noon, when crews were dispatched to a home on the 3900 block of Cribbins Road in Clyde Township.

Central Dispatch reported two unconscious men at the location.
Officials said the men had been working on the well at the address.
Upon arrival, deputies immediately detected a chemical odor in the area.
A 20-year-old man from Riley Township and a 21-year-old man from Clyde Township were transported to a Metro Detroit hospital, where they were pronounced dead due to exposure to hydrogen sulfide.
Multiple first responders were decontaminated at the hospital due to chemical exposure.
The St. Clair County Emergency Management Team, Clyde Township Fire Department, TriHospital EMS, and the St. Clair County Hazmat Team responded to the scene.
The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.
