MILAN, Italy – His voice guides viewers through the biggest moments of the Winter Olympics.
Inside NBC’s Studio A in Milan -- where millions of viewers around the world tune in each night -- Ann Arbor’s own Mike Tirico is once again at the center of it all as NBC’s primetime host.
Tirico sat down inside the same studio where he anchors the global broadcast to reflect on the honor of hosting the Olympic Games. He described the role as both a privilege and a responsibility — helping tell stories of triumph, heartbreak and everything in between.
That includes the headline-grabbing silver medal finish by American ice dancers Madison Chock and Evan Bates. Their result sparked debate among some fans over judging, but Tirico offered a measured perspective, emphasizing celebration of the athletes’ performances and the years of dedication behind them.
Tirico said hosting the Olympics can feel like a marathon of its own. The long days, constant preparation and global spotlight take stamina — but he says it is always worth it.
This marks his sixth time serving as NBC’s primetime Olympic host. Even after decades in sports broadcasting, Tirico says the emotion, pressure and power of the Games never fade.
For viewers in Metro Detroit -- including those watching on WDIV -- Tirico says he remains proud of his Michigan roots and the connection back home while helping bring the world’s biggest winter stage to television screens each night.
