The pedestrian, a 51-year-old Detroit man, was allegedly thrown into a roadside ditch and was unresponsive after being hit by an SUV.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they found the man “face down in a water-filled ditch and began life-saving efforts,” officials said.

He was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The crash involved a 2008 Jeep Liberty being driven by a 16-year-old boy from Marine City.

The 16-year-old returned to the scene a short time after the man was hit, and is cooperating with the investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.

The investigation awaits results from drug and alcohol tests.
