Novi woman says she’s out $8k after her car was totaled, but CURE won’t give her payout

A Novi woman says she is out more than $8,000 after CURE agreed to pay her for her car that was totaled. Then, they suddenly reversed course, claiming she didn’t disclose that her brother’s girlfriend lived under her roof.

Her story is one of many recently covered by Local 4, uncovering what lawmakers are calling a troubling “gap” in Michigan’s personal injury protection law.

Aisha Moore, of Novi, first got her CURE policy in Nov. 2023.

“She paid her premium every single month and thought she’d be covered if anything ever happened,” Lawrence Kajy, founder of Kajy Law Firm, said.

Family left to care for injured 12-year-old, his sister after Macomb County mom killed in crash

A family is coming together to care for an injured 12-year-old boy and his sister in Macomb County after their mother was killed in a crash.

Amber Schwark, of Clinton Township, was killed in a head-on collision while driving with her 12-year-old son Wyatt on Thursday (Feb. 12) afternoon on Groesbeck Highway.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Elizabeth Road and Hall Road (M-59) in Macomb County.

Macomb Community College offers free dental care on Give Kids a Smile Day

Macomb County Community College brought big smiles to kids and their parents by offering free dental care as part of Give Kids a Smile Day.

This event was made possible by a $4,000 grant from the 2026 Michigan Dental Association’s Public Relations Grant Program.

The clinic provided everything from dental exams and cleanings to x-rays, all at no cost. This initiative is making a significant difference for families who struggle to afford dental care.

3 arrested after 19-year-old found dead near Oakland County lake

Three people have been arrested in connection with the deadly shooting of a 19-year-old whose body was found near an Oakland County lake earlier this week, officials said.

The suspects, three 19-year-olds, two from Romulus and one from Taylor, were taken into custody on Thursday by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Team, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

Two were arrested in Romulus, while the third was apprehended in Garden City after trying to flee. They are expected to be charged as soon as Monday.

Weather: Snow chances continue Sunday in Metro Detroit; tracking more winter weather next week

Most of the region is waking up to a coating of as much as a half inch of snow on Sunday morning, and we will keep snowing into the forecast working throughout the rest of the day on Sunday. Light snow will give way to a snow shower Sunday afternoon and into Sunday evening, as winds will become breezy thanks to a northwesterly flow. High temperatures will head into the mid 30s by Sunday afternoon. With the snow continuing, most places could see one to 2 inches of snow by the time we get to late Sunday night.
