MARQUETTE, Mich. – Police in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula are searching for a missing Northern Michigan University student, who has been missing since Sunday.
Trenton Massey, a 21-year-old NMU student, was last seen on Feb. 22, 2026, at around 3 a.m. He was seen on cameras walking in the area of E Baraga Ave and the Founder’s Landing Boardwalk in Marquette. Police said he was likely trying to walk to his place on McMillan Street in the city.

Massey was last seen wearing a black and olive-green coat. According to police, the 21-year-old appeared disoriented in the surveillance video and had difficulty walking.
Marquette police, as well as multiple other agencies, have been searching for Massey since he was reported missing and provided daily updates on the search on social media.
On Feb. 23, police provided a map of the relevant search area where they believe Massey is.
Police suspended the search at around 7 p.m. on Feb. 23 and said they will resume searching for Massey at 9 a.m. on Feb. 24.
Police will focus on the water in the lower harbor near Founder’s Landing.
Volunteers who want to help find Massey are asked to report to the Hampton Inn lobby at 461 S. Lakeshore Boulevard on Feb. 24 at 10 a.m. for further directions. Police are reminding volunteers to stay off the ice in the harbor.
