Senate votes to fund most of DHS, pay TSA workers

Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Senate made progress in addressing the partial government shutdown in the early morning hours Friday.

In a rare overnight session, the Senate unanimously voted in favor of funding a majority of the Department of Homeland Security.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement and parts of Customs and Border Protection are not included in the tentative deal.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said he was quote “very proud” of his caucus for standing united during the DHS stalemate.

The House still needs to take action before funded agencies within DHS can get back to business. Representatives could vote as early as Friday.
