CENTER LINE, Mich. – A caller told a Macomb County man that an earlier phone call he received was a scam, but it turns out the two were working together.
Police said the scam began in early April, when a man from Center Line got a call from someone who claimed his 401k had been hacked.

Later in the day, a second person called to tell the man that the first call had been an attempt to scam him out of the money in his 401k, according to police.
The second caller told the man to close his 401k so they could reopen another one. During that time, the resident talked to a relative who told him the two callers were likely working together and the entire thing was a scam.
The man called Center Line police, who kept the scam moving forward so they could catch the people responsible. When the scammers went to the man’s house to get the 401k check for the new account, they were arrested, police said.
