Michigan ranks 44th in the country in reading. Only 4 in 10 Fourth Graders are reading at grade level. And more than 60% of Third Graders did not pass the state reading exam.
And when you break it down by county, it really hits close to home.
In Macomb County, only 37% of Fourth Graders are reading at grade level. In Oakland and Washtenaw counties, that number bumps up slightly to 48%. And in Wayne County, only 30% of Fourth-Graders are reading at grade level.
