Grocery prices are going back up -- here’s what to know

Grocery prices rose more than 31% in Midwest since January 2025

The war in Iran is now hitting closer to home, right at the grocery store.

Globally, food prices are up nearly 2.5% since March. Sugar up 7%, vegetable oil up 5%, wheat up 4%, and both dairy and beef are climbing too.

In the Midwest, grocery prices have risen more than 31% since January 2020, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. And it is not getting up. The USDA predicts grocery prices will rise another 3.1% this year, and beef alone could be up more than 10%.

Michael Greiner from the Oakland University School of Business joined Local 4 Live to talk more about grocery prices.
