DETROIT – Kalee and Gus, the Detroit Zoo’s North American river otters, have welcomed three healthy pups, according to zoo officials.

The pups are currently being monitored behind the scenes with their mother, where animal care staff closely monitor their development. Officials say the pups are already hitting key milestones and even doubled their weight within their first week.

For now, the father Gus is being housed at the front of the zoo at the Edward Mardigian Sr. River Otter Habitat.

The pups will make their first public appearance this summer, but in the meantime, the zoo plans to share updates online as the pups continue to grow.
