‘Thank you, God’: Sterling Heights teen walks away from crash that split her car in two

The back half of Veasley’s Kia Optima rolled into a nearby parking lot on impact

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – A 19-year-old Sterling Heights woman is calling it a miracle after a crash split her car in half and she walked away with just some bruises.

Demi Veasley was heading home from her boyfriend’s house Monday night when a speeding driver T-boned her at Hall Road and Schoenherr.

The force of the collision split her Kia Optima in two, sending the back half of the car rolling into a nearby parking lot.

“I really thought I died,” Veasley said.

Veasley said she remained in the driver’s seat through the entire crash and somehow, the driver’s side of the car was left nearly untouched.

“My driver’s side was practically untouched. I just had a small crack in my driver’s window. That was it,” she said.

‘Thank you, God’

Veasley said she blacked out briefly before regaining consciousness.

“I screamed. I screamed really loudly. I blacked out for a little bit and then I was facing north and the first thing I said as soon as I opened my eyes was thank you God. Like I didn’t know if I was alive or not,” she said.

Despite the violent crash, Veasley walked away without any serious injuries.

“A lot of head impact, very sore especially my neck and my back, but I’m on meds now. So, I’m feeling a little bit better,” she said.

‘Everything has a purpose’

Veasley said she was wearing her cross necklace at the time of the crash.

“It’s the only thing that stayed on me, isn’t that something,” she said.

After seeing video of the wreck, Veasley said the experience left her with a message she plans to share.

“Just seeing the video, I’m like wow, I really survived that. Now, I have a testimony to tell people,” she said. “Everything has a purpose. Everything has a meaning and everything has reason. God will see you through.”
