Michigan residents can now order a license plate with a logo of five different historically Black sororities and fraternities, the Secretary of State announced this week.

In a video posted to social media on Thursday, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson unveiled the new plates, which feature logos of Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Delta Sigma Theta, Phi Beta Sigma, and Zeta Phi Beta.

“From their earliest days to today, these organizations have made a powerful impact in Michigan and beyond as champions of civic engagement, community service, equality, and excellence,” she said. “Now, members of the participating fraternities and sororities can display their membership with pride.”

Under the Michigan Vehicle Code, drivers must be a member of an organization to order their affiliated plate. Members of the five participating fraternities and sororities can order a specialized plate by downloading the Application for Special Organization License Plate form. The plates cost $25 and cannot be personalized.

Collectors plates are also available to the general public for $10 and can be personalized, however they are for display only and can’t be used for vehicle registration.
