DETROIT – Michigan State Police are investigating an alleged police impersonator who may have tried to pull over a driver Wednesday morning on I-696.
In a statement, MSP said a driver called 911 around 7:40 a.m. to report someone in a Oldsmobile four door had pulled behind him and flashed red and blue lights.

MSP said the incident started when the driver got into a "traffic altercation" in the eastbound lanes of I-696 near Hilton with the Oldsmobile, which was being driven by a white male.
The Oldsmobile pulled behind the victim and activated red and blue flashing lights, and when the victim pulled off the freeway, the Oldsmobile pulled around and re-entered the freeway.
The driver tried to get a license plate, but it wasn't correct.
MSP said troopers do not use unmarked vehicles to conduct traffic enforcement.
MSP said if drivers are unsure about who is pulling them over, they should maintain a safe speed, turn on your hazard lights and call 911. The dispatcher will be able to assist you in determining if it is a real police officer.
