DETROIT – Michigan State Police say drunk driving is being investigated as the cause of a crash early Wednesday morning on the Southfield Freeway that injured four people, including two young children.
Police said the crash happened in the southbound lanes near Plymouth Avenue just after 3 a.m.

A 2006 Chrysler SUV lost control, hit a pole and flipped.
Inside was a couple and their two children.
Police said they are still determining which parent was driving at the time of the crash, but both are suspected of being intoxicated.
Police said the children were in car seats, but they were not secured correctly.
All of their injuries were serious but not life-threatening.
"This is absolutely tragic, highly preventable," said Trooper Jay Morningstar. "You have children who trusted that their parents were going to take care of them. When they're not, and when they're injured like this, it pulls at your heartstrings. It's very frustrating."
Police tell Local 4 that the father has not had a valid driver's license since 2001 and that he has multiple warrants for his arrest.
