Mackinac County man wins $4.3 million Lotto 47 jackpot

LANSING, Mich. – A Mackinac County man can’t wait to “share with family” after winning a $4.3 million Lotto 47 jackpot from the Michigan Lottery.

The player, who chose to remain anonymous, matched all six Lotto 47 numbers drawn Nov. 1 after buying his ticket at the Kwik Mart on Main Street in Walkerville.

This is the seventh time in 2017 a player has won the Lotto 47 jackpot.

“I was visiting family members down state and stopped to buy a Lotto 47 ticket,” said the player. “A few days later, I was having a burger and beer near my home when I noticed my wallet was full of tickets, so I started scanning them on the self-service machine.

“When I scanned the Lotto 47 ticket, I got a funny message so I set it aside thinking I’d check it again at the end of my tickets. When I checked it again, I got the same message, so I took it up to the bartender. She handed it back to me and told me I’d won big. I asked my stepdaughter to text the winning numbers from Nov. 1 to me. When I saw I’d matched all six, I screamed: ‘Oh my god!’”

The lucky player visited Lottery headquarters Thursday to claim his big prize. He chose to receive his prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $2.8 million, rather than an annuity. He plans to share his winnings with his family, and may buy a newer truck.

“This is still all sinking in,” the player said. “I can’t wait to help my family out with this jackpot. When I see the look on each of their faces is when I think it will really set in that I’m a millionaire.”
“I’ve got six kids and several grandkids, so I’ll probably be half-broke by the time I’m done with them,” the player joked. “But it’ll be worth it!”
