A motorist on the M-44 highway between the Michigan towns of Ionia and Belding had to do a double take upon seeing yellow road lines painted over a dead opossum’s body.

Ionia native Polly Misner shared a photo on August 15 showing the dead critter with a continuous yellow line painted on its back.

Speaking to the Grand Rapids Press, Misner criticized those who painted the road without making an effort to remove the opossum.

“I thought, the paint trucks are already holding up traffic, why couldn’t they stop and scrape it off the road? It might take 15 seconds. “I was driving 55 miles per hour and I saw a dead animal from enough distance away that I could have stopped. Just thought it was funny, but then I was a little disappointed that it looks gross and could have been avoided,” she said.

Misner’s post had garnered traction since it was shared on August 15, having received 83 reactions and 890 shares at the time of writing.
