A Cheboygan man learned he had won a $1 million Powerball prize after receiving a text message from his son, according to the Michigan Lottery.

Bryan Spray, 65, matched the five white balls — 01, 28, 31, 57 and 58 — in the Dec. 13 Powerball drawing to win the prize. He purchased the winning ticket at Court Street Party Market, 1101 Court St. in Cheboygan.

Spray said he bought several Powerball tickets before leaving town but did not check them after the drawing.

“The next day, I got a text from my son asking if I got lucky because there was a $1 million winning Powerball ticket sold in Cheboygan,” Spray said. “I checked my ticket and, to my surprise, I was the big winner. It was surreal. I still can’t believe it.”

Spray recently visited Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. He said he plans to retire and invest his winnings.
